Educate and Activate: Digital Self Care for womxn and non-binary people | martes, 16. junio 2020
About this Event
Are you a womxn or non-binary person avoiding social media because of the fear of online abuse? Do you want to have a flourishing online presence but the level of toxicity is a turn off? Are you lacking the confidence and knowledge to use platforms settings to better serve you? Then this one hour free online workshop is for you!
About this training workshop
Sadly, evidence shows that women are 27 times more likely to be harassed online, and this is even worse for women of colour, disabled and LGBT+ people. The fear of online abuse is causing an exodus of womxn and non-binary people to leave and not be able to take up their rightful space in both online and offline spaces. Alongside campaigning for both government and tech to implement systematic change, at Glitch, we are passionate about equipping womxn and non-binary people, as digital citizens, to flourish online safely through our training workshops.
In 2019, 100% of our workshop participants reported gaining skills to be safer and resilient online compared to just 18% before the training. 93% left feeling safer expressing themselves online and 85% reported improved confidence levels using social media.
Thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund we are able to run our esteemed interactive training workshops for free! In this one hour interactive session you will learn:
- What online abuse is and its manifestations
- Vital digital self defence techniques and strategies, including how to effectively document abuse
- How to create your very own digital self care plan that enables you to have a flourishing online presence without compromising your wellbeing
You’ll come away with practical tools and increased control over your online presence, resulting in a happier, healthier relationship with the digital space.
As online abuse is an issue that disproportionately affects womxn and non-binary people with multi-intersecting identities, Glitch would like to extend a particularly warm welcome to individuals from these groups.
“I found this workshop extremely valuable and immediately enacted some of the advice given. It was great to be able to discuss the issue and interact with others, sharing experiences, ideas and advice. I feel more confident to manage my online life and wish I had had this workshop much earlier.” - Alison, 2019
Glitch is a small charity championing everyone's right to be online safely without discrimination, abuse and violence. Glitch has trained thousands of people across the world in education, government institutions and workplaces around the world to highlight online abuse as a global problem and encourage action from everyone.
